Dyno Testing/Tuning

OTC Dyno open to the public

The OTC Racing dyno is now available to the public , Pete Alton tunes and develops his own motors for his national F2 sidecar team.

As many of you well seasoned motorcyclist knows , a dyno is not just to tune a racing machine. It also serves an important purpose for the road user.

There is a point to it all, for instance how many times have you sat at a set of lights and thought this bikes not running as well as it use to. How many times have you opened the throttle and felt a flat spot or hesitation? well you might be right, it usually means its not set up correctly and more so if you have replaced standard equipment.

The benefits for the road bike

Diagnostics and fault finding / Before and after servicing comparisons / Carburetion and throttle body adjustments in real time / Fueling adjustments in real time at different throttle positions / Engine and transmission noises diagnosed in the workshp and not on the road /Confirmation that the aftermarket performance part does what it claims to do.

Benefits for the race machine

Real time fuel injection mapping / Engine management mapping / Engine tuning / Development of performance parts / Comparisons between tuning parts / Increased throttle response / Increased torque / Increased corner entry and exit speed by mapping for individual circuits.

Why our Dyno
Image 1

Our Dyno is the latest state of the art equipment , with high speed data acuistion unlike older machines , it samples information 1200 times per second. Intelligent inductive pick up system and unrivalled steady state testing . Correction for climate conditions and 12 data logging channels and consistant comparable information . Real time display while performing a dyno run lets you monitor what is happening to the machine during the tests.

The type of testing available ranges from straight forward BHP and Torque testing , Full closed loop controls enables a vast range of tests to be carried out , such as wind drag, sweep testing, step testing, and constant load testing.

Dyno specification

Roller inertia 12.8kg/m2, max horsepower 600hp, max torque 600ft/lbs, max speed 200mph, timing accuracy +/-50 nano seconds, speed accuracy +/-0.01mph, rpm accuracy +/- 0.1rpm, Data acquistion 12 analogue data ports.

In addition to all of the above we also have the latest in diagnostic tools, these are essential for the more modern machines.

Read on if you,re a tech head or have a look around the rest of the services and products available at Weston Motorcycles who we think gives the best service in the area.

Suzuki fuel inj mixture adjuster

Suzuki EFI mixture adjust we can adjust each individual cyclinders idle mixture , richer or leaner, in real time while the bike is running, either with all the cyclinders locked together , or fine tune 1 , 2, 3, 4, individually if necessary . Eliminates hunting , loping idle caused by improper idle mixture settings. The engine will run cooler at idle and the off idle surge is eliminated

Five throttle position run settings , adjust and program fuel delivery in five different ranges  1. upto 10%throttle tune out idle stutter  2.  11%to25% throttle  3. 26%to50%throttle  4.  51%to75% throttle  5. 76%to100%throttle

ICS Controller

The ICS Controller is short for the idle stability control, on euro3 Suzukis the throttle valves are entirely closed at idle so no air passes. The air inlet is executed by a seperate valve called the ISC valve which is operated by the stepper motor. This valve is controlled by the ECU which is aiming for a pre programmed idle speed. The system works very well but makes it virtually impossible to synchronise throttles in the usual way as the idle speed and the vacuum continually changes.

The only way to synchronise the injector valves is to override the ICS valve , to hold it steady while the balancing is carried out and we have one.

OBD Fuel Injection Tools

OBD tool for Honda Kawasaki GasGas Ducati & Triumph elactronic fuel injection systems. Sensor data and settings can be displayed in real time and fault codes can be displayed and/or reset. Live data can be displayed either in a data screen with numeric and bar displays or four variables can be displayed as scrolling graphs. All live tests can be saved for future comparison and for your records. Tests can be replayed exactly as they were recorded and all sensor data can be printed at any time.

OBD also features a data recording facility allowing you to record runs either on road or dyno for later viewing and analysis. The OBD interface is disconnected from the PC and left on the bike where it records all data just as though the PC was connected , afterwards all the data can be uploaded replayed and saved to the PC for future use.

Data variables can be displayed as either bar chart or graph Throttle position, RPM, engine coolant temp, intake temp & pressure, lambda sensor, battery voltage, injection pulse width, secondary throttle position, ignition advance, exhaust valve operation are all displayed as variables.
